Throwing Rocks in the River with Family of Four

Sometimes kids can take a good chunk of time to warm up at a session. This little man had fallen asleep in the car on the way out and was a bit sleepy still when they arrived. This meant that he wasn’t too keen to meet my enthusiasm or run around straight away.

So we all decided to switch things up a bit and head over to the river to throw some rocks in the water. I set my lens to the longest possible range and gave a bit of distance between this family and let them do their thing for a while, quietly capturing them from afar, with the occasional instruction to mum and dad. Gradually this little boy began to loosen up and by the end of the session, he grabbed my hand as we chased ducks together.

This worked well for this family and I was pleased when Aimee wrote to me expressing her thoughts about the session.

Our family is one that is extremely close, and we spend a lot of time together.

We love going to the skate park and my partner and both children cruise around on their scooters everywhere. We love the outdoors, camping, travelling, walking and exploring together. We all love cooking and I take great happiness when I can involve the kids in cooking day to day

We are an adventurous and close family and we have never had family photos done before. The only professional photos we’ve had before now was my daughter as a baby and as a toddler and she is about to turn 7!

So, I was nervous about whether my children would take to Stephanie and be willing to participate in the session cooperatively.

On arrival at the session location my youngest especially was a bit unsure.  But she so gently, and without him knowing, began to build a relationship with him. He soon became much more comfortable and eased into the session quite well.

My favourite part of the whole experience was looking through the photos at the reveal and actually loving the ones of myself – which I usually don’t!

Stephanie is a very patient photographer, but is also very prompt in getting shots taken “in the moment”. If I could give a tip to any families thinking of booking a session it would to be relaxed about it and trust Stephanie has it covered.

If you’d like to talk about booking a session but are unsure about how your kids might go, get in touch. I’d love to chat with you and can give you some reassurances as to why you won’t have any problems.
